Bi-wire solution

Posted by: Huwge on 11 February 2005

Just thought I would share this with you.

For many years I was happy with LP12, 72, 140, no name CD player and HB2 speakers. About 7 years ago I decided that a proper CD player was in order and I ended up with a CD3.5. Not long afterwards a household accident (read godkid) put pay to the Heybrooks. To keep the missus happy I ended up with the small Audio Physic Step SLE (bi-wire option). In spite of Naim's advice to the contrary I found the best sounds coming out when bi-wiring with NACA5.

I recently had the amps serviced, added a Hicap and a CDX2. There was a tremendous amount of detail coming through but it really didn't sound right and it was more than just burn in. I revisited the forum and wondered whether it could be the bi-wiring. I ran a single wire to the speakers, made a simple bridge with NACA5 and bugger me if there wasn't a night and day difference - for the better.

Today, considering which spades to put on the end of my provisional bridge, my dealer loaned me the Phonosophie bi-wire adapters. All I can say is that if you are currently electing not to bi-wire and using a simple bridge or even something more sophisticated you should give these a listen. I just can't stop listening to music. To make sure I wasn't getting too carried away, I have replaced provisional bridge and there is, to my ears, a clear difference. Sorry for the essay, but I just had to share this.

Also - I seem to have posted in the wrong forum and can't figure how to shift it to the hi-fi forum. Got a permission error when I tried to delete the post. Am a muppet Frown

That'll serve them right for never visiting the music forum. Winker

If you really want to post this in the other forum you could just "copy" your post and then "paste" it into a "new discussion" box on Hi-Fi Corner.

I couldn't tell the difference when I removed my biwiring cables and went back to normal wiring. But it wasn't NACA5.

Huwge,

Never mind the wrong place post. You'll know next time.

I did a similar thing to you but just used a proper cable to bridge the terminals instead of the bent metal provided. It is better but not earth shattering. However, this is not true Bi-Wiring, that would be to run two complete pairs of cable. Naim do not reccommend this for their amps.
