Hells Bells, Marat Safin beat Roger Federer in the simi-final at the Australian Open, he went on to beat Leyton Hewitt in the final.

A lot of disappointed Australians then? That's very sad.

Personally, I thought it was nice to see Safin win, even though I would obviously have preferred a home victory. Safin certainly had earned the right to the trophy after knocking off Federer in what was undoubtedly one of the best matches ever played. I think most Australians are happy to have seen an exceptional two weeks of tennis, and to see Lleyton get to the final was a bonus.

I have only one thing to say.....
When will they put a roof over Wimbledon???
We had an interesting evening , lost the tennis, then Pakistan demolished us in the cricket. But Marat took a tram down Swanston st. and showed off the cup, and Leyton told us this morning that he is to become a married man. Who could ask for anything more.

A previous post is on hold because I used one of those unPC terms for which I apologise in advance to the moderators. Please forgive me as I am an Australian. However we Aussies can applaud a great win. Marat won us over with his excellant play, and in addition he is a real gentleman. Lleyton was extremely lucky to make the final, but with his never say die spirit he deserved to be there. All's well that ends well with Lleyton announcing his engagement at an after match party. We have a lot to look forward to.

No worries mate. The goalposts keep shifting on PC terms anyway. Or should I analogise from another sport and say; the rules for cricket deliveries keep shifting on PC terms...
I hope you chaps aren't still sensitive about the rules for cricket deliveries?

Deane, This is something you will just have to get over. By the rules of the day it was a perfectly legal delivery.
For the benefit of our American Namies, in a cricket match many years ago , probably before Deane was born, New Zealand needed a home run off the last ball of the match to win.
Very properly the Australian captain informed thr umpire of his decision to have it bowled along the ground underarm, thus denying the Kiwis of any chance of winning.
This also probably killed off any chance of New Zealand becoming a State of Australia.
In the words of the politicians: It is time to move on.
