HELP: Tukans with Kan x-over?

Posted by: Erik (DK) on 16 April 2004

Hi there - I hope you guys will be able to help on this one. Would sure apreciate it!

Two factors are at work:

1. I'm selling my Kans to a guy who's going to use their components in a pair of Isobariks (Before the Kan cult accuse me: I'm just the one SELLING them, not actually "slaughtering" them + if I didn't sell to him, he'd just get a pair somewhere else Big Grin)

2. A guy is offering a pair of X-overless (i.e. active-only) Tukans on the pf forum.

So my question is: would it be possible to use the x-overs from the Kans with the Tukans? I don't think the buyer will actually need them, and as far as I know, in active mode people use the same x-overs (e.g. Ixo) for both speakers... (But I'm not sure).

Quick replies apreciated, as I am to ship off my Kans monday.

best regards

Surely we have some experts on this?

I've actually seen people write that the x-over in the Kans were better than those in the Tukans. If that is the case, this might even improve the sound of the Tukans, or?

I hope someone has the time to comment on this. Thanks.

Did you post this elswhere too (ie. PFM)?
I reckon that it would be a bit hit and miss to expect the crossovers from one speaker model to work with another. Crossover design includes the frequency & impedance characteristics of the speaker drivers themselves, along with a bit of trial and error tweaking.

Yes, I did a copy & paste from pfm, as no one there seemed to be able to answer.

I think I heard people use the tweeter from both Tukan and Katan in the Kans, but I'm not sure whether they changed any component in the crossovers?
