"Shoe Box' components and remote
Posted by: Jerryl on 05 April 2004
Question One:
I'm on the market for a second hand Naim setup for my office. I like the older smaller "foot print" components, my question is does any of smaller components Nait or NAC have remotes, volume only would be satisfactory.
Question two:
What is your experience in pairing the above mentioned equipment with Royd Envoy speakers?
Thanks for your help?

Hi Jerry,
None of the "shoebox" pre-amps have remote control.
Have not heard of the Royds you mention but I have owned the smaller Royds in the past. My own and other peoples opinion s that Naim and Royd go together very well in general.

I have shoebox items in my office and a CD3.5 (unfortunately it's not wired up at the moment...).
There's a mismatch though - the CD player is full width, and the 62/140 don't have remotes.
I'm contemplating getting a Nait 3R instead.
An alternative front-end would be Meridian 20x CD players, which can stack, but they ain't Naim!

thank you all for your replys.
I read elsewhere on the forum that NAC 72 has a remote. I found a picture of a 72 which was shown as half width, can someone confirm this?

Jerry,
If you want a remote controled shoebox pre-amp you will require a soldering iron and a different forum

Thinking about it, I "heard" a Cyrus a few months ago. I was in the local TV cum mid fi shop and they had a Cyrus system playing. I've no idea what it was as there was a tall stack of about a dozen or so near identical boxs all lit up and the speakers were all lined up on the floor, but........it didnt sound to bad.
My first real bit of hifi was a original plastic cased Cyrus 1, and no it never gave any trouble at all and sounded great.
