Burning CDs

I just bought an iMac and tried my hand at burning a CD. I was surprised at how much different the product sounded than the original. Muddy, with overbearing bass--good enough for the car, but you wouldn't want it under your roof.
I used iTunes on the default speed. (The interface is clunky enough to make Bill Gates blush.) Would lowering the burning speed make a difference?

Make sure the Import preferences are set to AIFF oe WAV (16bit, 44.1KHz) and not AAC or anything else. Also, make sure any EQ, Sound Check (in the burning prefs)is off too.

You can check the format of your imported files bu highlighting and using the File>Get Info menu item or Applekey/I

Copies should be as near identical as makes no odds...
