Mick,

Yeah, well, we'll all live for another day!

How's that CDS3 sounding? I've had a CD5X on dem all week, must take it back to the dealer this afternoon. Lovely thing, but I wanted more for me money to be honest. Think I'll have to grasp the nettle and get me a CDX2...

Yes the CDX2 is a much better choice.

It sounds brilliant as a stand alone and is totally trasformed when you add a XPS/2.

Buy the above and then worry about your amps. Naim is a product where source first truely makes sense.

An alternative would be to buy a good second hand CDS2 / XPS package.

Mick - yeah, I agree. I LOVE the CDS2, but I'm not big on the idea of buying second-hand, given the apparent longevity of CD transports.

I tried the CD5X "capped" off my FC2, but still not a patch on the CDX2... and frankly not as much better than my Rotel 991 as it ought to be at that price.

Alas, poor bank balance, I knew him well!

The failure rate of a CDS2 is less than 1%. I had a CDS2 for 3 years and it never faltered once.

Three years isn't a long time, and I'm thinking the next CD player I buy might be the last. I don't want £3k worth of scrap iron on my hands 5 years down the line...

It is a great instrument though. Wish I could afford a CDS3 Frown

Naim equipment is ultra reliable. I have a CD3.5 which is 8 years old and it is still going strong and has never had anything gone wrong with it.

I still think you should aim for the CDS2.
