Demographic realities on the ground

Posted by: Simon Perry on 15 April 2004

Rarely have I ever been as furious as I was this morning when watching the morning news. My blood pressure seriously went up. So George Bush is now going to support Israel's plans to annex parts of the West Bank. What does demographic realities on the ground mean anyway? Does "demographic realities on the ground" mean that a country can illegally occupy land, and, provided it builds enough farms on the land quickly enough, it can keep them? In other words, in you are an ally of the USA, ethnic cleansing and extrajudicial executions are fine, and international law counts for nothing. If only the Serbs had some friends in Washington, they might have succeeded in Kosovo.
What a great way to follow up the Iraq war. What a great way of tackling one of the root causes of anti-American feeling in the world. Fantastic George. You are truly the most dangerous man in the world today. This is all very sad. The USA deserves much better than this, as do the Palestinians, and, in the long term, Israel too.
Please, if you have a vote in the USA, for god sake get this man out. We'll do our best with Blair.

Simon,

More frustrating is the timing. Tuesday night Bush spoke on a nationwide television broadcast about how critical gaining the support of the Arab world would be in rebuilding Iraq. Less than 24 hours later he was standing with Sharon, supporting his plan and infuriating the entire Arab world.

Ludwig,
Depressing isn't it. Any theories as to why he's done it? I mean, is it because:

1. He's incompetent?
2. He really is that stupid?
3. He's got a great masterplan which none of us can understand?
4. The Israeli government have got pictures of him sucking a donkey's cock?
5. They are paying him off?

Democracy has well and truly failed!

Simon, whilst all of the above, bar #3, are undoubtedly true, it may be that the possibility of losing this election is finally dawning on him. This otherwise moronic move should nail down all those Jewish and nutball Christian evangelical votes. I read somewhere that Kerry also thinks it a good move, undoubtedly for the same electoral reasons, so while just about everyone with a brain wants Bush out for every other reason, it doesn't look like the Democrat line is going to be any different on the continued occupation of Palestinian land.

An absolute disgrace and yes, the shit-covered tail wagging the democratic dog.
