which side of feltmat is correct?

hy there!today i cleaned my rega p3 and put away the felt mat.bringing it back i noticed
there are two different surfaces.(and two different sounds)so what is recommended?smooth
side up or down?any experiences?

You say that each side sounds different. Just use the one that sounds best to you.

Try licking the platter, all over.
Saliva contains an acid that very slightly smooths the surface of the platter, which obviously improves the sound by ensuring a better bond between it and the mat.
Some say that licking the felt works best, but I disagree. Try it and let us know.
