speakers: Naim or Linn or Rega?

Posted by: Keith Wu on 16 April 2004

I'm sorry if this question has been asked many time. Hope you folks can give me some advices here.

I'm using 72/140 and want a pair of floor standing speakers. I have the following options in mind:
1. Linn Ninka (used)
2. Naim Intro 2 (used)
3. Rega Ela (new)

They all happen to have the same price. I listen to classical music on my Xerxes most of the time and I prefer speakers that can be placed against the wall.

I also saw a used pair of Isobarik at the same price, but I believe my 140 cannot handle it. Should I try?

Thanks for the advices.

Be very careful with the Ninka's - I have a pair and they are about 9" from my wall.

4. Neat Elites!

They work extremely well with Naim gear and even better with Roksan TT's.

Neat use Roksan's in their demonstrations!

never trust anyone (or any company) that insists you "JUST DO IT".

Smile

you could probably get some credos for the sort of money you want to spend.

Intro II's would be where I put my money Smile

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Hi
Try to get a listen to the Isobariks, (if possible with your amp).
I have a pair and can't see past them (not because of their large size obscuring the veiw) they are fantastic speakers and an absolute bargain.

Keith,just my 2 pence worth.I now have a 202/napsc/hi-cap/200.
Which i have had for 6/7 weeks now, they feed rega ela's (older style)
But for last 10 years had a 72/140,and last year added a second hand hi-cap.
What a great combination,great enjoyment!

SO,why dont you bye a pair of 2nd hand ELA's and add a 2nd hand hi-cap,for less than new speaker's,with better sound all round.

Keith, this only my view.By the way my front end is a CDX/XPS

Happy hunting.......Mark.

Thanks for all the opinion.

I listened to Intro2 and Ela yesterday (in 2 dealers) and found Intro2 sounded better to me. But it may not be a fair comparison as I have no way to listen to Ela with Naim gear.

I just found out from Naim website that they discontinued Into2 this year. Anyone knows the reason? Is Arriva a replacement of Intro2? It makes me a bit hesitate to go for the Intro2.

Cheers.

I've got some Elas (the second pair I've owned) - bought second hand, and whilst they're bright at times I think they're rather good - maybe a bit 'cheap' for some forum members though Eek
