Naim CD5i & Nait 5i + Monitor Audio Silver series

Posted by: Stoney on 04 April 2004

Hi All,

I'm totally new to the world of NAIM, having purchased the CD5i and NAIT5i only last week.

I have to say I am very impressed, in fact I am overwhelmed by my purchase.

Anyway, I need some new speakers to complement the system, but the misses doesn't like the look of the intro 2.

Can anybody tell me if my hardware would be suited to Monitor Audio Silver series (S8's preferably). Or offer any advise on the subject.

Many Thanks.

Hy stoney!Welcome here!ANd Most given advice in this forum:try to demo new speakers at your home and then decide by
hearing.
And good Idea to live with your misses a n d speakers and not to decide to get speakers i n s t e a d of your misses. All real freaks know
what we are talking about. Razz Roll Eyes Wink

I don't think that moniotr audio's are common among this forum. However, I've been running a similar system for a while; cd5 + nait5 + S6. I really enjoyed it. The S6 has a wonderful tweeter, quite a warm and forward midrange (voices are well projected) and a lot of bass. They do need room to breathe hence i had the port plugged because of my flat. I later added a Hicap to my cd5 and they showed the improvement very well. If you're considering the S8 make sure you have a big enough room. I'd had a 13" x 15" room and i thought the S6 booms in it. I heard them at a dealer in a much bigger room and they definitely sounded much better. They are however very efficient speakers.

i've now moved to my new house (first property Smile ) and has a smaller listening room. I'm therefore selling mine and upgraded to the petite. Harder to drive, flatter response but better suited to my home.

Good luck
Leon

PS. Can sell you mine if you're interested...Smile

Leon,

Thanks for the advice. My room is of the exact dimensions you give 15x13ft. Therefore I guess the S6's won't be that suitable, and definately not the S8's. However,If you can email some photo's of the S6's, and let me know the price/condition, carl.stone1@ntlworld.com I'll take a look.

Any advise on sound alternatives would be greatly appreciated - I am considering B&W DM4's also.

Thanks again, Stoney.

Thanks for the responses/advice guys!

The new Arive does look pretty sexy, although I've only seen it on the web site of course! Has anybody seen them in the flesh???

I think I could probably swing it to get the Ariva's, if they sound as good as I'm expecting them to.

Good to hear that the S6's are good though, they are still at the top of my list.
