CD5, Flatcap-2 mains question

Posted by: av in bc on 27 March 2004

In the process of upgrading mains for a Nait5, CD5 and Flatcap-2 system. I hear that the flatcap takes over all power functions for the CD5 so my question is. Why does the CDP still need its own power cord? Also is there any point in changing the CD5 power cord? Keeping in mind that i do not have original Naim cords only cheap hardware store types. I'm very pleased with changes that adding a PS Audio cord to the flatcap made. Hoping that the Virtual Dynamics will also help the Nait.

I think the CD5 p/s deals with the control functions and the better p/s from the FC, powers the important analogue side of the player.

Though strangely with a CDX2/XPS2 combo; only the XPS2 takes power.

Naim would of course recommend the use of their supplied mains cable.

i'm glad it's doing something (the CDP-PS). it has always bothered me a little to think that a good portion of what i paid for it is not working!

wow
popular thread (not)
anyways for those who may have been wondering the same thing as was, here is the answer from Richard Dane @ Naim.
When connected to the CD5 the Flatcap 2 dedicates power to the analog output board inside the player. The supply inside the CD5 then powers just the transport, controls, display and digital circuitry.
