John Abercrombie hepcats?

I've just gotten into John Abecrombie's stuff on ECM; I was wondering which albums of his would be considered "essential"...I have Gateway, Tactics and Cat'n'Mouse already.

I like his approach; a bit more self-effacing than Metheny or Frisell.

Two oldies that I consider essential are "Timeless", for the title cut, which features pre-Miami Vice Jan Hammer and "Characters" for the cut, "Parable". I love both of these albums.

"Five Years Later" with Ralph Towner on ECM is good, pretty mellow. But it's not available on CD. They did another album together, "Sargasso Sea", which I've not heard, but I believe that it is available on CD.

Also worth investigating is "November" with - among others - John Surman and Pete Erskine.

If memory serves, he's on the "Gateway" albums with Jack DeJohnette. I've got one of these, and it's a bit too world music for me.
