volume changes at low levels on 112

Posted by: JP Moree on 15 April 2004

Hi,

Recently, when listening to music at low levels I noticed several changes in volume every few minutes (sometimes up, sometime down). Has anybody similar experiences with the 112 or possibly the Nait5, as they both use resistor ladders for volume control?

Thanks!

Drop Naim an email, I've had a related incident on my 112 where one could not lower volume beyond a certain point.

The 112 uses a pot as a sender to control the electronic ladder, somewhat ironically if this pot misbehaves (becomes noisy, for example) it can cause volume changes or loss of control.

It's a possibility, anyway!

Andy.

Hi,

Naim referred to my dealer. The Dutch distributor Phonlogic gave a call the same day and explained that Naim used a chip vendor for a while which turned to have quality problems, where they bought the volume control chip. After that, they quickly changed supplier. The problem is that after a while, especially in combination with warmth, the volume can vary. There are customers in Dubai where the volume sponatneously went to max!

My 112 will have a new chipset soon!

In the living room I am now playing with the Nait3 from my working room on a pair of Credos. I am amazed with the sound, seems more "lively" and less analytic, still maintaining control. On my previous speakers (Monitor Audio PMC703) the 112-150 combo was much better than the Nait3, which sounded as if it had no enough control.

Hallo,
do you mean that nait 3 sounds better with Credos than with MA PMC703 ? And does nait3 sound better than 112\150 combo with Credos? Confused
Could you be more clear and detailed ?
Thanks,
David

Nait3 sounds much better with Credos than with PMC703s

Nait3 sounds different than 112/150, not necessary better or worse, if both on Credos. 112/150 more like typical HIFI (soundstage, depth, analytical), Nait 3 more lively, exciting (more PRAT?!).
