Glad you saw him, I saw Ray Brown weeks before he died and I was really upset. These giants are few now.

I saw him back in the 70's during his peak at Rick's Cafe in Chicago. He was a giant talent and remarkable to listen to and watch. On another sad note, Tyrone Davis died on the same day. He was known for R&B hits in the 60's such as " Turn Back the Hands of Time".

Yes indeed, I remember the gig well, stood at the front right next to the hammond. Being 6'4" I was on more or less eye level with Jimmy. You guessed right, he picked on me! Made me count backwards solo during the track 8 counts for Rita. When I had finished he said to the crowd, "now when this fellas in bed with his woman and she's saying is that all the time I got..." LOL :-)
