New Doves album out today...

Anyone seen, heard anything? I've heard a couple of very promising new tracks live, anyone got the goods?

Was playing it (new album) while I was working this afternoon.

Fan bloody tastic - and that's on one cursory listen! An absolutely essential purchase (as are the other two LPs). Am a massive Doves fan though so I am biased.

Am seeing them next month – can't wait! If you've never seen them live I highly recommend them, they're one of the best live bands in the country.

Hi Kev

I saw them last year at the Hammersmith Palais late last year and agree. Stonking live!

Did you buy the limited edition DVD thingy or the normal CD.

Best
Jay

PS like a real fan I assume you have the previous "proper" albums on CD and vinyl like myself?

Not being a "Proper" fan, not having the vinyl, I have to ask if the new album is up to scratch. Lost Souls is brilliant and I play it a lot, but The Last Broadcast just isn't nearly as good. You seem biased, so maybe I'm not going to get the real answer here. Winker
They are playing here in March & I wasn't going to go, but I think you've just changed my mind.

I've read lots of reviews for this album this week. They all mention the 'C' word. Does it have a bit more bite and interest than 'Coldplay'?

Bruce,

Don't listen to them! To compare the mighty Doves with a bunch of priggish bedwetters like Coldplay is frankly absurd.

Having listened to the album (yep, limited edition DVD thingy) I have to say that the tunes aren't as obvious but after a while they get to you. On balance, I'd say it was as good as "Last Broadcast". I think.

Thanks for the heads-up! Didn't know they had a new album out--I'm off to get it! Love "Lost Souls," and really like "Last Broadcast."

Taking the bar exam really knocked my music awareness and purchasing back!

Great album, had it for a few days now and love it. Not quite up to lost souls yet, but once ive heard it live it might go up the level

Well I've picked it up too and must say it's excellent. A couple of tracks really go off loud! But I know how much you guys all hate that Winker

Having listened to it for a few weeks now, I have to say it's an absolute belter. While there is nothing on Some Cities as awesome as Lost Souls' "Rise" I think generally it passes muster as their best album yet.

Standouts for me include the title track, "One Of These Days", "Black & White Town" and "Snowden" which is gorgeous, a gem.

I've got all four albums on excessively heavy rotation on my iPod and I just think they're the best band in the world at the mmoment.

Going to see them later this month. Can't wait!

I listened to it a couple of times and it was just beginning to work on me. I played it to a friend on Friday night and he thought it was so good that he took it with him and I haven't seen it since. Roll Eyes
