how happy with your dealer?

Given the fact that Naim kit needs attention to set up, how many of you have recieved an expert advice from a dealer you've bought your kit from?

Are they worth it? Or would you rather skip 'em?

How was your buying experience from a Naim dealer?

When in the East Midlands Derek at New Audio Frontiers (formally Sound Advice) in Loughborough.

When in London (and probably as far North as Milton Keynes) Peter Coles at The Studio, Finchley.

Both know their stuff and go the extra distance help you make the right choices.

Hamish and the guys at Sound Organisation in York get a big recommendation from me. I've never spent much money there (cos I'm tight - not in the US sense) but they have always looked after me, taken time etc and done a great job. Daren't think what would happen if I actually spent some serious dosh!

I've been dealing with Rick Duplisea at Audio Alternative in Colorado since 1985, and I happily continue to do so, even though I'm now 2000 km away. He sells both Linn and Naim gear, among other things. It's been useful to be able to get first-hand information about the difference between an Aro and an Ekos say, or a Lingo and an Armageddon.

At the price of a new 250 or 300, it's worthwhile to fly out to a dealer you trust, if that's the only way you are going to get to hear lots of different choices in the same environment.

I can understand your loyalty, JRHardee, but how do you get on with any transportation problems once a purchase has been made? Do you fly back with your new product or does it get shipped via a land carrier of some sort?

Just curious, so thanks for any response.

Thanks for that Graham. I'd forgotten that you guys have state sales tax(I'm in the UK), and I can see that the saving made on that would more than likely cover the cost of both the flight to the dealer and the shipping fees too. Hell, if you buy a NAP500, you could probably afford to charter your own plane for the flight.... Big Grin

Thanks again,

Chris

JRHardee,

You probably already know this, but the local Naim dealer in N. Virginia - Boulevard Audio - is run by a great and very knowledgeable guy, and a true music lover to boot. Doesn't have a whole lot of stock on hand at this point, admittedly, but will bend over backwards to make sure the purchaser is happy.

When we put in my new equipment racks the other weekend, for instance, they worked best in a place where I would have to remove the home-made contraption I was using to block the fireplace. Knowing that I needed something to keep the sound traveling straight through the ducts into my neighbors' units, he and another employee helped me build a new "blocker" that works and looks much better, at no charge. This included going to Loewe's with me and dragging me to his place to use his table saw.

I've been dealing with the owner for years -including when he worked at another local shop -and have always been happy with his service and friendship.

Regards,

Chris
