The music from Hell
Posted by: graham55 on 01 February 2005
So, while you're all thinking about my previous post for your ONLY desert island disc, ponder this.
You've been sent to Hell and Old Nick is softening you up with repeat playings of your LEAST FAVOURITE music. What would he choose?
In my case, I'd crumble after hearing Tina Turner start her way shouting through her so-called "Greatest Hits".

Very easy - Bhohemian Rhapsody (I can't even spell it).
One word out of two ain't bad!
Earwicker - noticed you've got Queen, PSB and FYC on the list - is this some kind of "gay" thing or just that you really don't like them?? Just curious...
Roland Git's got a weird voice, but they have done maybe ONE good track.
Queen on the other hand - I beg to differ - most of their output's been fantastic, and much more enjoyable than stuff like Led Zep (although I do like them too). Just thought I'd give them SOME support though (although I have to admit, "Now I'm here" is their best track - far superior to some of the more cheesy stuff like that damn "Under pressure" track, or anything off of "Hot Space" (shudder!!!).
WHY THE HELL has no-one mentioned the worst band ever - BLOODY Abba!?
Now THAT'S what I call shockingly bad - I can even handle (modern) RnB provided I don't have to listen to fekking bloody Abba!

There was a German outfit in the 90's that was two blokes & two girls, and it was possibly the most awful thing ever. Thank God I can't remember what they were called, but it was unforgivable. It was really plinky, plinky euro pop. Aghhh...

How can you not like Abba? Are you deaf? They were responsible for some of the greatest pop singles ever (actually, seven – Dancing Queen, SOS, The Name Of The Game, the pervy but brilliant Does Your Mother Know?, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Fernando, and Waterloo).
As for the PSBs, well, they've gone off the boil in the last decade or so, but West End Girls, Shopping, Hit Music, Rent, Left To My Own Devices, What Have I Done to Deserve This? etc are all masterful pop singles; their cover of Always On My Mind is magisterial and The Sound Of The Atom Splitting is gorgeously avant-garde.
And how can you even begin to compare the mighty Zep to trash like Queen is beyond me, or indeed beyond the comprehension of any sentient being.
Fine Young Cannibals are utter unmitigated shite however.
Nothing wrong with Propaganda, either; their Dream Within A Dream is one of the most transcendent pieces in all popular music!
C'mon people, let'sa get real here!

With all of the unmitigated intolerence being shown to Queen,[surely they must have done something right] I would like to hear it for The Village People. For, agin. Personally I am for, as in their day they were a very campy withit outfit. Who was your favourite. Mine was the policeman. He never gave meee a ticket.

Nah, later than them. This was probably 5-6 years ago. It'll come to me (sadly).

Another thing that makes me run screaming for the off button is any version of that awful vocal acrobatic monstosity that is Unchained Melody (even the title makes me want to be sick), and endless karaoke versions of I Will Survive (living here in gay Brighton, it's a weekly torture that I have to endure).

Why-o-why has no-one mentioned......Celine Dion!
Not only does she make me want plug my ears, but she must have a warning about going near to sources for heat with all the plastic surgery she's plainly had.

Jono,
She's on the first page. No thread titled "Music from Hell" could possibly be complete without mentioning Celine.

There is music I like which sounds like it comes from hell. I am thinking primarily of The Residents version of Satisfaction which sounds like something Jack the Ripper could have done if he had been alive in the 70's and had the talent to express his frustrations. Another one is Throbbing Gristle performing Discipline.

Tomk,
Sorry such is my dislike of this "performer" that a mention in every post should be compulsary.
HansW,
You should have seen them live as I did with Clock DVA, Zev (a nut case beating the shit out of plastic dustbins) all supporting Caberet Voltaire back in the early '80s. I couldn't hear much for 2 days after!

Easily; they're shit. I'll grant you that I like Dancing queen, but only really for the connection with the ace "Rik Mayell Presents" episode of the same name

I like Led Zep, don't get me wrong, but like another couple of bands I like (Floyd, The Beatles) they're soo ridiculously overhyped that sometimes it's nice to bring them down a peg or two and be controversial...
I managed to mindblank the sodding Village People; I fekking HATE them. Almost as much as the SODDING Weather Girls.
