What to do about speaker wire?

Posted by: Steve C. on 17 March 2004

I am in the process of upgrading from a Nait 3 to the 112/150 combination. I have NACA5 speaker wire going from the Nait to my Spendor S100's, but this is a single wire set. I'm currently using a single strand of wire as a jumper for the tri-wire Spendors. What's the feeling about tri-wiring and Naim these days? Stay with the jumpers? Get my single set of NACA set up for tri-wiring?

I've never really understood what bi/tri-wiring is about (except making bigger bumps in your carpet).

Hi Steve,

If you are into subtle tweaks, I would try plugging the A5 into different sockets on the speakers - the main options generally being offered by biwireable speakers, being able to use bass driver connections or tweeter connections.

On my Proacs I was surprised at the difference. Originally I was plugged into the bass drivers with the link taking the signal on to the tweeters - it seemed intuitive good sense, bass needing more clout, bass connectors lower on the speaker cabinet, cable rising from floor etc.

Heard of this 'tweak' from a local dealer and decided to give it some airtime...

Wow, immediate tighter feel, better timing and drive, sweeter - no discernable downside I could detect at all!

Definitely worth a go - if you can of course...

best regards !!!

You are just getting more copper to transport the signal? Or not?

I've got two cables (NAC A5) to try. one for the tweeter and one for the woofer.

I can try it without any problem?

Good suggestion. I've done this before but it's been a while, and with different amps.
