Baseball '04

So, should we do a fantasy league on Yahoo? My fear is that I heard MLB leagues can be time consuming.
Regardless, let's start by ragging on the offseason moves.
My early picks are the Angels and Cubs.

Definitely on for Tuesday Matthew. Cards/Dodgers is a mouthwatering prospect. La Russa owes them for Kirk Gibson anyway. By the way I think I win the predictions competition. 6 of the 8 playoff teams and just pipped in the ALWest.

Dodgers at Cards is the 6pm game followed by Boston at Angels at 9pm. Unfortunately the Twins at Yankees is the overnight game which means unless insomnia intervenes I'll be watching Johan Santana on video.
Probably wont make it home for first pitch in the early game.

Look away now Ludwig. Your boys are getting mashed in the 3rd.

Clearly a brilliant Dodger strategy to lull the cocky Cards into a false sense of superiority.
I'm listening via MLB.com Gameday Audio (which sucks).

Is it me or are most of the American League teams a little frou frou, all big hair and attitude? Twins will win that league.

The AL has always been a poky league of prima donnas. Baseball's played in the NL.

Johnny Damon has the best hair and will help the BoSox to AL glory.
Clearly the Dodgers problmes start with Gagne's preposterous chin adornment.

Houston really have turned it round since that managerial re-shuffle. Can't be too impressed with Braves frankly.
I'm going to tempt fate and say we are playing the Twins in world series.

The Twins, esp. "Carlos" Santana and Torey Hunter, were ace last night and it was easily the best game so far. If they can beat the Yankees and Houston see off the Braves I'll be happy with any subsequent outcome as I quite like all the other teams.
My preffered WS matchups would be either Boston Vs Cards or Dodgers Vs Twins.
Matthew
PS Julio Franco is old enough to be Ludwig's Dad and is still batting over .300

The fecking Yankees do it again. Truly they are evil and I am developing an irrational hatred of Jorge Pasada (he just looks like he needs a good kicking although I am sure it's just his uniform and really he's a nice bloke).
Your Dodgers are hanging in there Ludwig.

A nice shutout last night. Now, if only Odalis Perez wasn't taking the mound today there might be hope.

It seems your irrational hatred of Jorge Posada maybe misplaced.
With Gary Sheffield going 3 for 4 and Matsui going 3 for 5 with 5 RBI in game one of the ALCS, wouldn't it be better to vent your spleen on them.
I was surprised to see Schilling knocked out the game after 3 innings.
Hopefully Pedro will perform more efficently tonight. Unfortunately his last outings against the Yankees have been losses, which doesn't bode well.
Still I hope to see Pedro win, otherwise the Yanks will probably go to the World Series.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Clemens beat the Yankees twice in the World Series for Houston to be World Champions

I wasn't really just picking on Pasada, Peter, and pretty much hate them all.
Glad I didn't stay up all night watching it now. Might make an exception for Pedro's game (although as even he admitted the Yankees own him, maybe that will be unwise).

Looks like we are in for a slugfest in the NLCS and if that's the case I suspect our bullpen may just be strong enough. Much as I prefer a 1 to nothing win in a 2 hour pitching duel, this is exciting!

The 'Stros are making this all very interesting. Beltran's been nothing short of incredible.
Posted on: 18 October 2004 by matthewr
My money's on the 'Stros. I think they are turning into this years Angels/Diamondbacks "Team of Destiny". Brad Lidge is my new favourite player, he roxxx.
Beltran is the Y*nk*es off-season target I heard. Bernie is getting on a bit and makes terrible Jazz guitar records.
And of course Beltre is as good as a done deal [/evil]

Both teams combine for a measly 4 hits in 9 innings. Lower the mound!
Two classics last night. How could one ever doubt that BoSox, Yankees would produce fabulous drama?
Using my patented Bounceback Theory of Sports I say Yankees clinch tonight and Cards win Game 6 to setup a nailbiting Game 7.
