Experience of a lifetime

Posted by: GML on 12 April 2004

A couple of days ago I sat tansfixed listening to the following system.

CDS3/NAC552/NAP500/NBL. - Nine hours went by in a flash. It was an experience I shall never forget. Marc Cohn's voice on 'True Companion' was so full of texture and feeling the like I have never heard before.

My own system CDX2/NAC202/HC/NAP150/Itro2's will take some getting used to again. My speakers look like toys by comparison. I have to somehow forget what I heard.

I think however that the owner of that incredible listening experience summed it up when he said, "We all have the Naim sound, some of us just have more of it" That may of course be true, but 'BUGGER' anyway.

Dear GML,

I have had the pleasure of listening to that system many times.

It always costs me a fortune afterwards as i have to go out and buy many of the discs that were played by the owner of that system.

This is the fun of this hobby, listening to music on very high quality systems.

You will have to pay a visit to some of the other systems in this area????

Thanks David

That's a very kind offer, perhaps I could pay you a visit with my good friend J.N. - you're right about the CD's of course, my must have list is never ending.

Can't wait to hear those 'speakers'.

Best wishes...George

Dear George,

Be great to have you visit my humble abode.

J.N. is a regular visitor so that would be great for you both to come over.

Get J.N. to give me a ring.

Sat and Sun are best for me.

regards David

"pay a visit"

Sounds like a phrase that fits!

Sounds like a dream system. One I can probably not afford in a year or 20, at least. My dealer wouldn't even let me listen in on the 500. Self-protection he called it. And rightfully so I guess. I did hear a CDS3 for a minute or so, at very low volume. Still burning in. Thankfully I didn't hear it to well. Stimulates upgradeitis like nothing else Wink .

I did hear Geoff's system, which is very good! I hope to end up with a system like that in a couple of years. It does make you wonder about the bigger Naims though...

One thing I've learned in the year (just a year) I'm dedicated to HiFi is never to listen out of budget. I failed the first couple of times, and the result is probably saving up for a couple of years, living on bread and water, never seeing friends (unless they come over to listen in on my system), and ignoring schoolwork.

Naim is very, very dangerous. It's just that good Wink .

Cheers!

Yes indeed; I was there with George and that system sure was cooking.

I braved my own CDS3/252/250/SBL's the following day and to quote Captain Darling:-

Made an entry in my diary today - simply said 'Bugger'.

Have to agree with you guys...Naim plays music...full stop. Our task is to maximise it's chances of doing so. Julian had it sussed and all the boys and girls at Naim do us proud each and every day!!
