Hotels in Lincoln

Posted by: NB on 30 March 2004

I am considering a weekend away in Lincoln, having not been there for over 20 years I wonder if anyone may suggest a good hotel with leisure facilities. A nice pool is a must together with a nice restuarant.

Lincoln

I went there a few times on business several years ago.

I stayed in the Castle Hotel, a small family run place. It is opposite the Castle and has excellent views of the Cathedral. The restaurant was excellent but no pool.

I also stayed in a hotel belonging of the big chains, I think it had a pool. I ate out.

Lincoln

My home town of multiple dozens of years ago -

I have stayed in the Castle Hotel - if I remember correctly it was once a school building - it is is almost under the castle walls. However I now stay at the Marriott Courtyard (Marriott points and no adverse suprises and acivilised atmosphere) which is by the Brayford which is a body of water were the River Witham turns right and is joined by the River Till which connects to the Fossdyke (a roman canal that joins Lincoln to the Trent).
No swimming pool at the Courtyard.

When I was a kid, walking round town at lunchtime the Brayford appeared to be a vast stretch of water with commercial barges on it and a little pleasure craft whose main claim to faim that it was used at the Dunkirk evacuation. Now every time I see it I am amazed at how small it appears to me.

As for restaurants - I have even less relevant comments. So I will not comment.

Enjoy the weekend
