Posted by: Robbert on 17 April 2004

Is there a (big) difference between the Flatcap (olive, from 1997) and the flatcap 2 (black, from 2004)

Could you hear it? And wich one is better?

And is it usefull (the olive flatcap from 1997) on my NAIT5 from october 2003? And usefull on a CD5 (in the future)

I can buy a flatcap (the olive flatcap from 1997) for € 500. Is that to mutch

Not sure of the exchange rate, and can't be bothered looking it up, but €500 for a 7 year old flatcap, which will need recapped soon, seems too expensive to me. Going rate in Britain seems to be about £200 for that vintage.

Robbert,
You can buy a 2nd hand flatcap 2 for £250, if you keep and eye out. And it;s worth it , believe, I have a flatcap 2 on my cd 5 and its amazing. It gives a lot more of everything really.
Dont rush, wait for the right kit.

Yes €500 is a bit to much, altough i must say i payed €400 for mine, not much of an improvement there, but i guess that more or less they´re paying the same thing in England.

I´m using a Flatcap(1) on the Nait5 and all i can tell you is that it makes no small difference, can´t live without it now.

Can i concluding that the "old" flatcap is just the same as the flatcap2 only the "old" one has place for one equipment and the flatcap2 2 pieces?

Not sure about that...

Cosmetics are different - FC 2 will match your Nait 5 and CD5 - they were made for each other Smile And it will power both.

No. Both Flatcap and Flatcap 2 can power two components each. It's the Hicap that can power only one component.

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. I believe the flatcap only powers 1 componenet and not two.

sure it was just an oversight.
Flatcap 1 can only power 1 item. it has 4 sockets one of which being voltage out and the other 3 signal out.

Difference in performance between F1 & F2 is subtle yet worthwhile (helped by F2's enclosure) and the added advantage of being able to power a CD5 (3.5) from F2 makes it way to go (funds permitting)

Can't understand why anyone would choose a CD3.5 Hi-CAP combo over a CD5 Flatcap. CD5 is a far superior player.

My first CDP was a 3.5 with a Flatcap1 and it just has one outlet to power. I then bought the 5 and FC2 when it came out the next year and I was impressed with the difference. Much cleaner delivery and to me more involving. I was too shocked at the prices then to even consider a CDX, but now I'm eyeing the CDX2 and that would eliminate two boxes into one.
