Ink Jet cartridges
Posted by: Haddock on 16 February 2005
I need to buy a new set of cartridges for my Epson R300 photo printer.
Can anyone recommend an on line shop that sells these. Also does anyone have any experience of using non-epson replacements.
thanks,
Nick

We use Choice Stationery for ours (we've got an Epson photo 870).
Much cheaper than Epson, not sure whether they last as long or not.
The PC complains that they are not Epson cartridges when you fit them but they seem ok to me. Only had a slight problem at first with cleaning the inkjet noozzles but a couple of runs through the cleaning process and they have been fine since.
Have used Choice several times and they do good offers on multiple purchases and they deliver quickly as well.

I have the exact same printer and use Epson compatibles from here
I've had no problems with the inks, although if you do print lots of pictures, I would suggest you only use Epson's photopaper.

Thanks for that. I've looked at the web site and they are literally a quarter of the price at Jessops for the Epson cartridges.
Have you found these inks to be as good as Epson in terms of colour etc. I have tried non-Epson paper before and found it lacking.

I've used a numer of non-epson cartridges in my printer (wh smith, pc world, and others that are even cheaper). There is absolutely no justification for buying the genuine article unless you have money to burn!

Agreed.
Epson printers are prone to blocked nozzles if not used regularly, but this happens with Epson replacements just as much as with the compatables.
I've used XL shop and Choice Stationary both with no problems and good service. I've used Print Rite and Think cartridges.

Anyone else think the official manufacturer's cartridges are a rip of? OK the printers are cheap but mine (HP DeskJet) with seperate black and colour carts costs about £25 a cart and they don't last that long.
I'm seriously thinking of getting a monochrome laser printer as it costs less per page and I hardly print in colour.

This drives me mad. I use an Epson colour inkjet for the very occasional photos in a report, but otherwise my mono laser takes care of business. It seems that every time I need a colour print, the carts have dried up! Anyone have any idea of another printer that doesn't do this?

I hate to think how many printers are sitting idle because of the cost of ink cartridge replacement. I checked the price of my HP cartridges (over £30 each) and found I coud buy a new printer for less than that price. And did!
So my HP printer was occasionally used for one set of cartridges and then discarded.
HP still send me regular spam about their wonderful printers and what they can do. (When they have ink in them)
I heard that the cartridges supplied with many printers contain much smaller amounts of ink than the expensive replacements. Perhaps that's why new printers are so cheap?
