Anyone having trouble with Mail in OSX 10.3.7?
Posted by: garyi on 07 February 2005
Just a heads up, since installing my router there has been the occasional prblem notably with mail.app and most browsers.
I am no expert but in the network pref pane under TCP/IP there is a Configure IPv6 button, click this and swith it from automatic to off then apply the change.
Apparently this is the latest version of how it deals with DNS look up and many sites and email clients are not configured, the outcome is slower web browsing.
I am just mentioning this because I have switch it to off and it is noticably faster opening pages and launching mail and safari.
Apprently this is only in respect to 10.3.7

Gary
I am using 10.3.7 and have the IPv6 set to automatic
Using the Mail app or Thunderbird (which I prefer and it is much faster than Mail) I appear to be getting a good response.

Garyi,
Well, I'm still on my trusty OS 10.2.8 after taking your advice to skip Panther and I'm still waiting patiently for Tiger to arrive.
I've also got a Netgear wireless router on order which hopefully will arrive tomorrow so I'm sure I'm in for own set of fun and games getting the bloody thing to work!
Cheers for the heads up anyway.

I just found it on the apple site because I am getting afew problems since the move to metronet and this router (I think)
ichat is stil lplaying up I can't get the video to work.
Some advice is to make sure certain ports are open, unfortunatly I don't have a clue how to do this.

Perhaps you have to log on to the router's web page or something?

garyi,
i can't help with your mail problems, but i do now how to open ports. go to system preferences>sharing>firewall. to the right of the list, hit the new... button, set port name to "other", and enter the port number and description.

Gary,
I recently moved to PlusNet from Pipex - all told, a fairly hassle free switch - and the one problem I had stemmed from forgetting to update the DNS server entries which in my case are stored on the ADSL router. Doubt that has anything to do with your problem, but it's certainly something to double check.
John
PS. Can thoroughly recommend the PlusNet 2Mb/Lite ADSL - great customer service too.
