OGWT Double DVD
Posted by: BigH47 on 14 March 2004
Just wanted to say what a great value set this is (£14.99 CD Source P&P free). It was recommended in the "Lost Days Posts". Nearly 300 minutes and I only skipped one "performance" the dire PIL. Worth the price of admission for Frankenstein alone. Some classic moments in there highly recommended.

That is Vol 1. I agree - it's wonderful. I especially like the Rory snippit. What do you reckon of Vols 2 & 3?

Anyone care to list what's on the various DVD's?
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Re: Val Doonican it was the theme music for the program and the only appearance by the writer on the show. Eclectic was what OGWT was all about. There were shows that to quote A Kershaw on Vol1 made you say what the "fuck was that". Maybe not the greatest music or performances but really seemed to catch the essence of the times.Well away from the mainstream chart "music". Working on the others.
Rasher only got Vol 1 so far.

Rasher, you're a Star for doing all that work - thanks!
I have to say, i fancy all of them for various reasons - as has been said, ecletic and some real Gems.
Thomas Dolby, Be Bop Deluxe, Joan Amatrading, Suzanne Vega, Bowie, Prefab Sprout, Roxy Music, Blondie, Talking Heads, Police, XTC, Kevin Ayres, Moore & Lynott, U2, Damned, Specials, Emmylou Harris, Focus, Rory Gallagher, Squeeze, Simple Minds immediately come to mind!
Are they available from my local HMV or do you get them from the BBC direct?
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

ahh - they dont make programmes like that anymore. Spose Jools does it to an extent but he always seems to have the same ppl on.
Got the first set which was thoroughly enjoyable. The new one looks good, but disapointed they missed out AC/DC who I think did Whole Lotta Rosie and Sensational Alex harvey Band with Delilah (possibly).
ooh, it takes me right back......

It was no work. I wouldn't do that amount of work. It was a copy & paste from Amazon.

I had a small role in editing these DVD's. We wanted to hide this as an easter egg in volume two, but the author never got back to us. Enjoy Old Grey Squirrel Test

God that list takes me back to when I had hair and slightly less body mass.
Have to get the DVD's.

So they really were miming on the OGWT then?
I sorta suspected this all along really but how disappointing to discover that it wasn't just a few but that they were ALL miming. What a shocking revelation.
The sound quality on my recently purchased copy of Vol.2 is truly DIRE BTW. Nowhere near as good as Vol. 1. Why? The tape hiss on Roxy doing Ladytron for eg? What a God awful mess. Bloody awful. Ruined.
I do hope I have a duff copy.
Anyone else?

P,
'Fraid not. Volume 2 is simply an all round duffer. Someone let the series down very badly in terms of choices, presentation, sound, extras - the lot really. Vols 1 and 3 are excellent. Sad to hear that 3 is the last. They do all seem a bit random though. Putting aside one's own musical choices it was lovely to be reminded of thos OGWT moments that you wouldn't necessarily buy but you do remember all your life - that bloody yodelling pillock from Focus for starters.

That's Thijs van Leer you're abusing there, and probably my favourite bit on OGWT - 1, which I have
I reckon 2 is pants, but will probably get 3, which contains some gems. The early 70's stuff is worth it for the visual impact alone!
