2 Hi-Caps or a Supercap
Posted by: TimCarter50 on 31 March 2004
Hi,
I have 82/2*Hi-Cap/250/SBL's, has anyone tried replacing the 2 Hi-Caps with a Supercap?
If so, was it a worthwhile 'upgrade' other than putting you in a better position to upgrade to a 52/252?

Hi - I did cds2/82/2*hi/135s to 82/super. I felt the bass went a good deal deeper and was much more tuneful, less woody, it really grounded the music and the speakers whereas before they had been cut off. Absolutely fab on trip-hop or drum 'n bass, I heard notes distinctly I'd never heard before. The midrange lost some of its artificial fruitiness, voices were a lot more natural and could hear harmonies. The dynamics and rhythm improved dramatically too, it really brought out all the little inflections in cymbals, snares etc that make good musicians good.
No comparison really. I picked up the difference in about the 1st 3 bars of music and decided to buy immediately!
The 52 is the same degree of advance again....

In my experience: an unequivocal YES

I've had a scaringly similar experience - excepting I'd already bought the Supercap before inserting it into one's 82/250

All, thanks for the input. Sounds like (no pun intended) 3-0 to the Supercap.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again

Supercap. Cos it will allow you to go on to 52 next.
On a more serious note, I had the 2hicaps for a short stint on my 82 before moving on to Supercap. The improvement is significant. More articulation and more tuneful bass was the main areas of improvement. You will not regret getting the Supercap. It is a big step up.
