Hej Naim gutter Smile

Has anyone tried silver cables between

yes

IMHO...very refined, though lacking dynamics

I've got one right now. Are quite happy with it. It's not perfect, hard to get a perfect cable. There are sometimes to much "ssssssssss" on some voices, depending on the recording and voice. Bass although is better, more defined and deep.

Yes, but CDP is not a Naim.

I would agree with Laurie with respect to the cable I initially purchased. It had a very clear and clean upper and mid range but the base was weekish although nice and tight and it lacked life. Still quite pleasant though.

HOWEVER, when it was demo'd to me the builder of the cable http://www.slinkylinks.net/, conveniently also based in Wellington, had a cryogenically treated (technical name = critical mass cryogenic tempering) version of the same cable that he was experimenting with and I tried. That was a different story and gave a much stronger performance with all the +’s of the standard cable but with more ‘grunt’. Unfortunately he would not sell this cable to me but we did agree that if I purchased the standard cable I could include it, at a nominal charge, in the next batch to get the cold treatment.

I am very happy with this cable now and on the strength of the demonstration I heard that evening I have had all my cables from the CDP/tuner/TT to the speakers similarly treated.

For my next trick, having spent long enough playing with racks, I am going to experiment with silver versions on the SNAIC4 and 5. I have all the parts, including the air dielectric tubing, silver wire (signal carrying wires only), silver solder and the connectors. I don’t hold out huge hope for these being better than the originals, particularly before they get chilled, but the only way to find out is to try – so I will.

Steve.
