I have seen a new cd from Diana Krall being advertised.

Is it worth a listen,

I can't bear the stuff, but I did read an article that said her new album was "different" from all her previous albums. Something to do with her being in a relationship with Elvis Costello.

I was playing the local jazz station in the background last night, and they played a track from the CD. I didn't even realize that it was Dianna Krall until they announced it. Considering I've got 3 of her earlier good albums and one of her recent crappy releases, I was a bit surprised that I hadn't recognized her voice.

I also didn't make mental note of whether the song was any good. (The production was certainly simpler.) Perhaps is just the vanilla single to please the masses, and the rest of the album is more noteworthy, or maybe the entire album is schlock.

I have heard on the grapevine that it takes her in a different direction and is not up to her usual standard, hence the question!

For what it's worth, French weekly Cinema/Tv/Going Out/books/Music Rag 'Telerama' rates it highly 'ffff'. But they liked the last one too.

Just a quickie, I'd never heard of her until last year me and the missus went sicily, and one night we went to taormina arts festival in the old ampitheatre and there she was ,not bad but not exactly rushed out to buy anything.Ah well back to the dark side

Does anyone know where you can get the new release on vinyl in the UK??

Oh and BTW are we all agreed that Elvis Costello appears to be one fortunate chappie....touch of the Tommy Lee genes maybe!

I hope DK and NJ move in different circles. What a terrible loss to the world it would be if both divas were extinguished in the same air/truckbomb/biological/nuclear/etc/etc disaster. Mad

So what would you say is DK best album ?

The best for jazz performance which includes the work of the other members of the group is

"Diana Krall in Paris" and it's the DVD-V that is best, not the CD.

Diana Krall,

I do admit to being a fan, and am puzzled why some people are so vitriolic about her.

The song "Narrow Daylight" from her new CD has been played alot on the radio - to me it is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

The new single is very good but the lyrics are laden with the usual heavy hand EC ,metaphors. 'Corridors of reputation' indeed. I think DK makes the song sound a lot better than it is if that makes sense?

I prefer her earlier stuff, small intimate group without the orchestra. With strings, I find her stuff too syrupy for my taste.

I'd give her one...spin on the old table!

My name is taken from lowest region of the world, a dank, gloomy pit, surrounded by a wall of bronze, and beyond that a three-fold layer of night; it is one of the first entities to exist in the universe; primarily the prison for defeated gods and a place of punishment for sinners-just like my sense of humour!
