Why is the Padded Cell apparently being deliberately & subtly scuppered?

Its very obvious I've been labouring under a misapprehension with regard to this precious forum phenomena.
You see, I thought it was all about what one posted rather than when one joined but I can see that I am wrong.
Please accept my apologies for directing an insult at you personally, in response to your directing of an insult at everybody that posts here other than (presumably) you.

No worries - we all need the Padded Cell as somewhere to be witty, not witty, intelligent and not so intelligent and so on.
As we pass our lives together perhaps, one day in a rosy future, we can discuss our passion for slippers and losing weight.

I bought a pair of Hugo Boss ones at Christmas. They are impeccably made and fit like a slipper. The ball and heal are rubber with the arch being a strip of leather, thus allowing the foot to flex more naturally. With the heal being made from rubber, it won't prematurely collapse like other leather slippers which are made from cork or chipboard. These cost £95.
I'm not overweight.

Matthew R once wrote, in this very padded cell (and rather movingly I might add), of the ineffable pleasure to be derived from ddrawing on the sole of a slipper wwith a biro.
You should try it sometime.

Kevin,
The only problem with that is the rubber soles are covered with "Hugo Boss" embossing. This is obviously there to give any guests the impression that I'm incredibly rich. I can't imagine this surface giving the same pleasure as Matthew was describing.

If I bought a pair of HB slippers at £95, I would not dream of drawing on the sole with a biro.
I've got cream carpets in most of the house - imagine trying to explain to Mrs. LTD where the biro marks came from !

Indeed slippers and weight loss have been discussed here a number of times before which does rather undermine Adam's bitchy cross-forum sideswipe.
FWIW there's a lot of that about these days and in my experience it always makes the author look worse than the intended target.

Summary
Don't wear slippers. The joys of underfloor heating dutch style
Don't do weight loss anymore. Everytime I try my body says "ah, you tried that on me before, we're not getting away with that again. I'll just consume less carbo!"
Now that life really is too short these are major decisions/choices
GEOFF.

If Matthew R. had in mind the sole of a classic "Pirelli" slipper I, strangely, am already acquainted. Why this surface should compel use as a tablet I do not know.
The soles are vulcanised Sponge Rubber and a similar (although largely illegible) pleasure can be had from neoprene - or skating on week-old blancmange.
As I child I also enjoyed licking the undersides of Dinky cars.

I think that the Fish has done more than it's fair share of throwing shit in this direction. I know it's only a few individuals but it's the Fish that gets the blame. Given that it now seems to be accepted behaviour I don’t think Adam’s little leg pull is outside the bounds. It’s perhaps a regrettable situation but hardly the end of the world.
Was it not you Matthew who called Naim forum people a bunch of losers on the Fish? I know that your cross forum insult was provoked and I understand your knee jerk reaction, (I've done it and will probably never be able to resist it completly) but it seems a little odd that you indulge in this behaviour on one forum and then complain about it on another. We all feel occasionally justified in firing one off (rightly or wrongly). To do that and then forbid others to do so ain't really on.
Cheers
Harry

Yes, Harry, I did refer to a small element of the Naim forum as losers in a post the purpose of which was to criticise a similarly small element at PFM for cross-posting flames -- something I believe is foolish and counter-productive whoever does it.
This simple point seems entirely lost on you for some reason even though I have explained it before.
Matthew
PS The quote about writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro does of course come from the HMHB song "The Best Things in Life"

This was what I was responding to. I had a quick scan over on PF and, just as with us and ZeroGain, the topics didn't seem especially passionate.
As a moderator (a small subset of humanity) I do sometimes scan the other forums. Mainly to reassure myself that problems and the occasional dullness can exist even in paradise.
If that is bitchiness I think your trigger is a little sensitive – I feel Steve M had the response about right.

Slippers? Oowh. Suits you Sir!
For one awful moment there I was terrified we were getting into admitting non-Naim fetishes.
Can't we just accept that Adam wins hands-down and move quickly on?

for slippers my personal favourites were my old pig slippers, not too dissimilar from these. I wore them out long ago though. They were very comfortable and nice and warm when the house was cold, but they could be dangerous on polished wooden floors.

Adam's put quite a few noses out of joint lately but I have to acknowledge his diffidence under fire.
I have spent a lifetime wearing slippers. For me, walking around the house without slippers is like walking naked into the conference chamber....

"Conference chamber" - is that a euphemism or are we in the presence of JonR JonR-Ghali?

I'm not sure about this but I do suspect that a few noses are out of joint due to the reaction to posts about service and reliability issues with Naim equipment.
I have some sympathy with Adam on this issue. One of my first posts was about blowing a tweeter on some Rega speakers and the problem was well taken care of by my dealer and the distributor. I should not have exposed the issue on the forum before my dealer had a chance to rectify the problem.
I would support strong moderation of posts re: reliability/service issues where there is no evidence of the consumer having given the retailer a chance to fix the problem.

Deane,
Taking your example, I don't think there's a problem with posting about a speaker problem before your dealer 'had a chance' to rectify it. It all comes down to exercising some responsibility when posting. If you make it clear that your dealer hasn't examined the speaker yet and you're about to contact him, then I don't see the problem.
Cheers,
JR

Oh well, we differ on this issue. Being legally minded I think talking about reliability issues while the matter is in process is conceptually little different from talking about a court case sub judice. In my example, the NZ distributor of Rega (and Naim), Chris Murphy (he's always watching the forum...), responded on my thread and assured me the problem would be fixed that week - and it was. I felt sheepish that I'd posted and still do.

I don't see much harm in making a post enquiring about a problem you are having.
If many people respond advising you that they had a similar problem you will then be able to take that knowledge with you in case there is debate over the cause of the problem.
The response you got was extremely positive from the distributor and served to make a negative vibe into one of positive support.
It's not always bad news that gets aired on forums............

Deane,
Fair enough, each to their own but as L-T-D says it's sometimes beneficial to post your issue here because others might have relevant experience which might help.
Besides, some dealers do use the forum as well - it often serves as a quick and easy communication tool because they know they're customers are using it too!
Cheers,
