new ipod mini

Posted by: woody on 23 February 2005

I finally ordered my wife an ipod mini from the apple UK store a couple of days ago. Today I received an email from apple telling me that my order for a 4GB standard mini has been cancelled and they'll be shipping me the brand new 6GB model. Cool

I guess this is one reason to buy from the manufacturer direct. Very decent of Apple I thought Big Grin

Lets be honest, Apple are being very aggressive on this pricing policy, £309 for a 60gb Ipod photo is a stunning price.

I wonder if its because they are due to topple from the top, or intend to hammer home their dominance in this market.

I am seriously costing up a photo now though.

I've had a 40GB iPod for a while now. I've never found myself thinking, "Damn, I wish I could use this thing to look at photos".

Woody,
I will be buying an ipod mini quite shortly for my daughter and was not aware of the 6GB version. The Apple UK store is now showing the 6GB but at a higher price than the 4GB HERE
Did Apple not charge a premium for the upgrade?
I will order the 6GB as it is only an extra 30 quid but I am just curious,
John.

John, I ordered the standard mini for £179 which I thought bought me a 4GB one and this was confirmed on my order. Now, Apple could have sent me a 4GB one but instead upgraded my order to 6GB which they didn't have to do I guess.

If the way to mans heart is through his stomach, the way to a womans is via an iPod mini.

I'm waiting for the iPod that downloads the CD cover and sleeve notes from CDDB.

If the iPod could load pictures directly from a digital camera it's be worth it now.

Stephen, totally! Winker

She is normally totally uninterested in electronic gubbins of any description but saw my new ipod and fell in love with it which is totally out of charecter. She's chosen a blue ipod mini (in the end the decision about which colour took longer than deciding she wanted a mini)

Stephen if you are using an apple mac, download itunes catalog, from macupdate.com

This will search your itunes library and go online find all the pictures and bang them into itunes for you.

If you have an ipod photo it will display the album art for you.

Infact there are loads of apps that will do this for you.

Stephen,
i've read Apple will release a "camera cable" for the IPod photo in March, no more info, but can do the trick. You have an other option with a Belkin IPod unit to download picts from your camera USB port.
I was planning to buy it, but will wait for more news from Apple about their cable.

Ian,
One of the main use of the photo Ipod is IMHO to temporarely store pictures from your camera. It save you the high cost of high capacity cards.

I'm aware of this - but I want covers and album credits/lyrics on my iPod.

My 'normal' iPod is OK for now.
