The oldest photography school in Europe has been "decontaminated"

A group of students from the photography school I went to in Vevey, Switzerland have been kicked out for protesting against the school's administration. They went on strike on Oct. 4th, and refused to return until pretty much every one heading the school got kicked out. The school, which is the oldest one in Europe to the best of my knowledge, is in a position of risking to close because the program is so abysmally bad students who aren't being kicked out are leaving on their own.

Although this might sound completely frivolous, the kids were supported by an a-list of outside professors that taught there until last year, which include Duane Michals. Martin Parr taught there, so did the late Helmut Newton.

Of the 40+ teachers, all but 2 declined the administration's invitation to return.

They were kicked out after the dean of students sent a letter to the minister of education, asking her to ""decontaminate" the school of the bad elements it still harbors"

the student's website is http://www.fsphoto.ch

the alumni's website is http://www.ou-t.ch

edit: messed my links up.

Its nice to hear that the students were listened to. As a member of the executive council of a students association of a Polytechnic once upon a time, when dealing with the Polytech's administration I always got the distinct impression that they found the students to be an impediment to the smooth and efficient running of the place.

However, that the students have won the day in Switzerland causes me to wonder if the quality of teaching will suffer in the end.
