From BBC News:

Brad Pitt hosts BBC Drake tribute

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt is to present a show on cult singer-songwriter Nick Drake on BBC Radio 2 next month. The documentary will be broadcast on 22 May at 2100 BST. Pitt was asked to host the show after Radio 2 learned he was a Drake fan.

Drake, who died aged 26 in 1974, is regarded as one of the most influential acoustic songwriters in British music.

"I was introduced to Nick Drake's music about five years ago, and am a huge admirer of his records," said Pitt. "I was delighted to be asked and pleased that I was able to fit it into my schedule."

Lost Boy - In Search Of Nick Drake tells the life story of the celebrated singer, who has influenced many musicians including Norah Jones and REM.

The programme includes Norah Jones's cover of Drake's song Day is Done, recorded in 2001, as well as the airing of a previously 'lost' track, Tow the Line, for the first time.

The track was found during work on a new record of Drake's rare or unreleased work.

Lesley Douglas, Controller BBC Radio 2 & 6 Music says: "I am thrilled to welcome Brad Pitt to Radio 2 to present what promises to be a unique and unmissable profile of the life and music of Nick Drake. "Drake is regularly cited as an influence by some of Radio 2's core artists, including REM, Paul Weller and Badly Drawn Boy and to have a genuine fan like Brad Pitt to present the programme will make it a compelling listen."

Nick,

I also saw Thommo at TW on Monday also and really enjoyed the concert. I think he needs to work on his Stage Presence though Big Grin, were you one of the heckling Stockbrokers?. I bought "1000 Years" and would like to see that show on the road. My daughter was singing along to "Sam Hall" on the way to school this morning and my wife thinks he has a manly voice (like me Smile. An excellent venue that allowed beer to be taken to your seat got my thumbs up.

How about a Rough Guide to Richard Thompson whilst he's still in your memory banks, the more Toot the better Big Grin

Nick,

I guess I didn't want to impose, anyway how would I tell my daughter I met these blokes after meeting on a chat room on the Internet Wink I'm seeing Todd & Brian @ RFH in July and will be looking out for the next Porcupine Tree Tour from Sept onwards.

I took a chance with PT after one of your reviews and had no duff buys out of 5 so far.
I am going try steven wilsons: bass communion - ghosts on magnetic tape; sounds like a late night winner.

It does go against what you've probably been telling her all these years about strange men on the internet. A bit like the one about not accepting gifts from strangers (except at Christmas that is when it is perfectly acceptable for some bloke in a dodgy red costume and fake beard to have them sit on his lap and offer them goodies Eek)

How do you explain to your neighbours that their peace will be shattered for an afternoon while you are entertaining some blokes you met on a 'chat room' (I prefer to call it an Internet Hi-Fi Forum)?

The Riders don't bite, they just play a wide range of music (some excellent, some I hope I never hear again) at excessive volumes. Good blokes all of them.

I'll probably explore the Tim Buckley and Nick Drake catalogues...

I'm also looking forward to the next PT album (I have been busily scooping up their back catalogue in the mean time) they say it is less heavy than In Absentia.

Also waiting for the next 'Fool album, but I'm not holding my breath...

Excellent! I hope this happened before you swept her off her feet. You could then claim to be the man she preferred to Brad.

'Morning Glory' the Tim Buckley 2 disc anthology is currently in the BOGOF section of HMV, so you could for example, get that AND the Dead's 'Closing of the Winterland' 4 CD set for £21.99 total. And what a corker of a set that is. Music and sound quality about as good as it gets (except the Donna G bits of course Roll Eyes).

Seagull,

Good Points

I could explain this to neighbours, but not sure if they would understand either.

I'm sure the Riders are bloody nice chaps and like me have musical tastes for all occasions.

I think I have an Island (19s 11d ) Compilation LP with Nick Drake on it, must find it. I have Jeff's - "Grace", so may may weaken to look into the old man's stuff via Nick's Thread.

As for Topographic Oceans, saw the 70's Performances twice in a week at "The Rainbow" and was scarred for life Big Grin - Fragile & CTTE still stand up today IMHO.

'"Do you know who that is?" and yes you've guessed it.....' Nick Drake!

Been quite blessed this week - R THompson last Friday, Albert Lee on Sunday and Fairport acoustic yesterday - who were a thousand times better than I expected. Both RT and Fairport sang 'Crazy Man Michael', and I couldn't really choose which was better.

Four cheers for Christine Collister also.

Chris,

Who did Christine Collister appear with? I would like to see her band live and so can you here.

I have her "Home" CD on order along with Mellisa Ferrick: "The Other Side" from CD Baby.

Denis,
Are you a plugger or a rec company exec?

Chris,

"Are you a plugger or a rec company exec?"

Neither, I'm a Manager in a Company that supplies Engineers to support hardware of a major Unix S/W & H/W manufacturer. I have a wide musical taste (expanded even wider by this forum) and I like to share my experiences, as others do here. Apologies if I have misled you in any way.
