empire direct

i recently bought a pair of sennheiser p100 headphones from empire direct. they cost £26 which was damn cheap, saving £4 from anywhere else. the money was deducted from my bank and then a couple of days later another £207 came out. i only noticed by going through my online bank statements. i contacted empire and they promised to refund the money asap. they only refunded £181, taking the cost of the headphones off again. i contacted them again and they promised to refund the extra overcharge. i am in the process of buying a house and getting my deposit together. this overcharge would have gone un-noticed if i had'nt been vigilant and checked my old statements. empire would have £207 of my money. i have been financially messed about and have been put at great inconvenience. does anyone have any good complaining techniques and help me get some compensation for their incompetence?

I had a problem with faulty phones supplied by Empire - they were returned and replaced (that was the easy part) but the replacement phones did not work. A little bit of persistence on the phone eventually led to being credit for the whole amount due and the collection of the faulty replacement phones.

Basically be persisent on the phone and follow up with polite and factual letters. They did seem able to resolve matters eventually.

jason,

Your case rests with your cc company you have to kick their ass not Empire Direct. 1ce you've phoned your cc company and given them a bollocking THEN phone ED and put the fear of god into them. The rules for merchant services are very strict and your Credit Card company has a lot of clout

i paid for the phones by normal debit card but it was ED that kept taking the money out of my bank. ED have now offered me £15 and have credited my account (not on statement yet). Could i still complain to my bank? is any of this their fault?

I would suggest you complain to everyone. If you are not sure who stuffed up letting your bank , credit card company, supplier and even your local member or consumer advocate makes sense.
