Quicken discontinued - help!

Posted by: John3 on 25 January 2005

Anyone here using Quicken for their home finances? Intuit have announced they are ceasing sale of Quicken, future product development and will only support for another year.

As a user for many years with many hundreds of hours invested I can't work out if this is a complete disaster or nothing to worry about.

I've never needed support or come across a bug and so the only contact with Intuit has been product activation. So maybe the biggest concern is getting the product loaded on a new machine in future? Anyone else concerned about this?

How easy and accurate is the migration to MS Money?

John,

I'm surprised by the lack of replies, I guess Quicken is not very popular. I use Microsoft Money myself because it integrates well with my Pocket PC. I tried Quicken and although it was very good, I chose Money because of my Pocket PC. When I installed Money there was an option for Quicken help files etc. so I'm sure the transition won't be too difficult.

I'm sorry but that's all I can really say. Money is good but I won't be upgrading to the 2005 edition because of the login process. Now you have to use your Hotmail passport otherwise you can't use the program. This means that your information is stored on Microsoft's online servers. I don't think Billy G should have access to my banking information thank you very much! With the 2004 edition, you setup your own login information with a name and a password and get online updates manually.

Hope that helps.

John

I switched from Quicken to Money a couple of years ago. Money imported all the quicken data accurately and it was a relatively painless exercise.

Boring subject I suppose!

Thanks anyway for your replies - guess I'll end up with Money, though I don't like like the prospect of loss of privacy.

Still be interested in hearing from any Quicken users who have worked out the downside of continuing with it.
