Question Time from Belfast
Posted by: Rasher on 11 February 2005
After last night's near punch up, I can't see a successful peace process coming from any of these bigotted idiots. I once thought that there was hope for peace; maybe public opinion has moved on and only the politicians are entrenched in their ridiculous squabble. Watching Martin McGuiness and David Trimble makes me realise they are both as irresponsible as each other, and there is little hope while they and Gerry Anderson hold their positions.
A very sad situation.

Err...what happened last night? Were McGuinness and Trimble both on Question Time and it got a bit umm out of hand??

I missed the start of it but as I was flicking it appeared to be kicking off between , McGuiness and some bland guy from SDLP.oddly I think they were only catholics on the panel. Dimbleby threatened to stop the show when it looked like the guys were going to start punching each other. I don't usually bother with QT but I stayed with it to see if anything happened. It didn't. The whole thing is surreal the way everyone on the panel and the audience twisted and spun pretty much any subject, tsunami, royal wedding to have a sectarian dig at their neighbours. I laughed my ass off, but it was a real tragic comedy. Most Irish people I've met profess to hate this bigotry so maybe there is somehting to the idea that the politicians are keeping the gas high for their own purposes.

Thanks Harvey,
I think a lot of what you say is in my opinion typical of Question Time whoever's on the panel, which is why I generally find it a complete waste of time, to be honest.
Cheers,

i'm with you Jon, though this was all the usual and a whole lot more. It's a high bar, maybe too high, for the people of Slough next week.

Another thing I dislike about Question Time is whenever a pnel member makes some sort of crass soundbite for the sake of a cheap round of applause.
My favourite political 'candy' is the Andrew Neil, Michael Portillo, Dianne Abbot show.

I suspect that the Anderson was deliberate, what with Adams being such a lovely Scottish name ana'll !

If only they had had Paisley on as well, it would have been Theatre of the Absurd at its finest. Perhaps he was asked, but WOULDN'T COMPROMISE! Would have been a rather short show though.

None of my business, I suppose, but surely the childishness is better than what was happening twenty years ago?
