How did this happen?

Cooking breakfast for the gang this morning, I stuck on an old Little Angels CD on the kitchen Matsui £60 CD player, turned it up, and we all rocked out around the kitchen. I was thinking that this was so great, such fun, and it just blasted out- that why do we indulge in all this hifi stuff when at times, good enough does the job?
It it really necessary?
Are we mad? We are talking thousands of pounds here on my Naim system - how did this happen?!

Hi Rasher,
Yes, we're mad.
Only thousands? You must be a beginner...!
Cheers!
Richard.
[P.S. remember rocking out to Little Angels at university on the most sh*te equipment imaginable - still loved it though!!]

At the end of the day all this hifi is about the music, is it not?

I'd only heard Rammstein on Kerrang and downloaded MP3s till a few days ago. Thought they were great.
I just picked up a CD of ebay. The sound is sooooooOOOO much bigger through the system. The musicianship is excellent and there are subtle nuances there that were hidden before.
The bottom line is that great music is great. A good Hi-Fi can just add to the pleasure.
(Grasping for an analogy from the car world; you can have a lot of fun in a hot hatch, but going on the track in a supercar is a whole different experience!)
