Flat Earth???

OK, its time for me to own up to being ignorant. Can someone please tell me what this actually means. As a NAIM owner I guess I am a 'flat earther' but it will be nice to know what that makes me!

Have a look at the PRAT thread and that should give you an insight......
No, I'm not being rude!
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Both is wrong:Flat earth means one dimensional(left to right Soundstage)round earth means two dimensional (also depht of sound stage)
Both earthes are wrong compared to real music.
Like in real life everybody notices first the
faults of other religions, believing that he himself is on the right way.
Soundwise the winner will be who will first
look in the mirror (to see ,admit and correct his own faults)so naim started to go to correct tonality(will give correcter 2dimensional space to the music and round
earth enterprises try to go for better prat.
Me as a music listener hope that those two
fractions will meet and that they will use their experiences and knowhow to build Super soundingsources, amps, and speakers and all this to an affordable price.
.....and then i wake up from my dream, and ask
myself why some records or cds are produced
in such a bad quality, and i begin to think
over if maybe there are also more dilletant Musicians than in the past!
And than i visit every year the ac/ dc concert
and the whole world (round or flat)seems for two hours quite ok to me.

Maybe it's just me, but you know what? I get depth in my system with the Nait3. Could be my room. Lot's of space behind the S100s. I have a set up with my chair up against the wall, and speakers free standing about 8 feet away.

Hello my 2 cents worth, typical round earth amps or systems talk about depth. air around the instruments, wider and deeper soundstage and I love this one "the silences are blacker",trust me when Mozart wrote he was not thinking about the air around the instruments or the silences being blacker, neither were the Beatles. I play drums and have done a professionaly recorded cd (2 inch tape,30 ips etc) and when round earthers talk about the image, they have no idea what it is supposed to be because they were not there, well I was there and the bass player was either in front of me or to the side, one guitar player was 15 feet away behind a screen, the other singer, guitar player was in a booth, I have played my cd on many different systems does anyone of them portray the correct "imaging" NOPE, does it matter, NOPE, do most of them portray a pleasing "image" Yes and that is fine, is there more drive, punch and beat on my Naim system, YEP,does Naim make me sound like a world class player, NOPE (rats) any way what separates a Luther Vandross or Gino Vanelli's singing from mine(i cant sing too well) isnt "imaging or depth of sound etc it is musicality, same applies to hifi equipment, the more it makes you want to Listen and enjoy the performance the better and more musical it is....terms like groove, in tune, melody etc apply to real music, same should be applied when listening to music thru a system...to wit one of the most musical evenings that I have had is when I saw Paul McCartney and his carefully chosen band at a football stadium, great mix to the sound, performance was exceptional by all, my lady friend turned to me during the show and said "i dont want this to end" she was right, it was that good...a very good hifi should reproduce the musical aspects as well as it can, the more it does, the more you want to listen and not fiddle with this interconnect, that wire etc...that is for round earth systems...just my thoughts, thanks,Ben r

Good thinking, Ben. Just when I was getting confused, along came this word 'musicality.' I've never been able to explain this word but I believe it explains that feeling you get when you start playing music and just don't want to stop. Perhaps, looking at it this way, nothing really needs explaining, least of all how accurately a recording matches the original performance in all its glory. Its all about musical enjoyment at that most critical of occasions .... when you're actually listening to it.
