Win XP dial up settings for 2nd user?

Posted by: blythe on 06 April 2004

Another techi question for you:

I have recently got Win XP and have set up my DSL and modem connections whic work just fine.
However, I have just created a "guest" login for when my niece comes to stay so that she can't screw up all my documents :-)

When I log on as "guest" although the dial up icons are shown under "connections" they do not appear in IE.
Also, i can't create a new connection in "guest" or tell IE to use the existing DSL connection.
If any of this makes sense, can some kind soul tell me how to connect to the Internet as a "guest".
I've switched users countless times looking for some way to do this but I've just about given up :-(

Cheers, Martin.

I should add that the 2nd user has been set up as a "limited" user.
Surely there is a way of getting an internet connection on that account?

Thanks Nick.
When logged in as "Guest" the Internet Options for setting as default are greyed out. I already under my main "adminstrator" user have my ADSL connection set to "always connect using".
Any more ideas?

It is always best to create a new account for your niece with her name on it. If you set it up initially as an administrator, you can make all your settings and adjustments, and then change the account to limited when you are done.

Thanks Rasher,
I created a new account called "Visitors" as an administrator and password protected my own account, which means they can't access all "My Documents".
It's not only my neice but actually 3 neices and 2 nephews, plus house guests that use my computer.
The internet now works and I have changed the "Visitors" user to "Limited". At least now they won't be able to install all kinds of crap programs on my PC!!!
The strange thing is that the first extra user I set up was called "Guest" but when I tried to set up a new user as "Guests" (plural) it wouldn't let me do it.....

Still trying to get my head round XP!

Thanks for your help :-)

Martin.
