Explain your forum name!

Posted by: Markus S on 14 March 2004

Some people on this forum have their full name as their forum name (myself, obviously, included). Others go by just their first name with or without an initial to separate them from the other Daves or Mikes.

Then again, some members have forum names which, at least at first sight, seem to have no relation to names, my current favourite being long-time-dead.

Would those of you who were more creative than I in choosing your forum name please explain yourselves?

BLT - My initials are L. T. (Lindsay Taylor) and the "B" is for "big" (unfortunately this refers to my overall size rather than that of any appendage). I had been called Big LT and then BLT at work for some time, so it seemed a natural pseudonym for fora use. Although I am called Konteebos on the Pink Fish forum - but that is another story.....

Dom FJ Brown (you can guess what stupid name the "F" stands for - luckily when I was confirmed I was able to choose a PROPER middle name (Joeseph - spelt wrong intentionally).

And no, the F doesn't rhyme with Duck.

Surname = Green, hence a rather unimaginative lifelong nickname of Greeny.

Are you sure, Matthew ? Ask the Jewish community... I shouldn't say such things but the truth is that Switzerland isn't exactly the virgin it is expected to be ! Another shattered myth.

Oh and the cuckoo clock actually comes from southern Germany. So this is stolen too.

Syd.

A nickname picked up at School some 37 years ago which has stuck fast since. Very few people now call me by my own name Kenneth.

Matthew - If you really are Kylie, what are you doing Tuesday?

If that were true Alex then I would be spending my days having showers not reading hi-fi forums.

I was a long time poster on the net before I came to the Naim forum. I found that my real name had long gone on whichever list I subscribed to, so I took to using the name 'aaa101' as it was free and meant I came somewhere near the top in alphabetical lists to save me scrolling down. When I came to post for the first time on the Naim Forum I innocently used 'aaa101'. I then received a truly nastly stream of abuse from Vuk V accusing me of hiding behind a made up name and suggesting dubious motives. We then got into a 'discussion' about this, and I argued that what the hell did it matter? If I was dishonest I could have picked a normal sounding name and no-one would be the wiser. To prove my point I adopted the name of a murderous thug that was appearing in 'Coronation Street' at the time - one Jez Quigley. I've stuck with it ever since. My real name is in my profile for all to see.

Matthew and I did a study and we came to the incontrovertible conclusion that the weirder the poster's display name, the greater the likelihood that that poster is running a mullet system.

Damn! I had my heart set on a Planar 2/202/200/DBL system. Will I be allowed this if I ask Naim to change my forum handle to, say, Marky?
Posted on: 15 March 2004 by Joe Petrik
Markus,

For a mullet that spectacular, you'd want to change your display name to Marky Mark, the boy who sings like a meadowlark. Well, either that or a blatantly made up name like Vuk Vuksanovic. ;-)

I'll compromise. Mark Marksanovic should do it.

Joe, can I just congratulate you on that truly wonderful graph. In my case, it's almost accurate (I reckon my system has a non-mulletude factor of 0.75).

Just before the Great Crash of 2004 I asked Richard D to change my monicker to my full name (which he did), but it seems Infopop knew that I don't qualify for anything approximating 1.0 on that scale.

Thank you. You may also appreciate this graph, with the same data plotted as polar coordinates. As you can see, you want to stay well clear of the graph's bullseye -- the area of perfect mullitude.

Long-Time-Dead is a bit like my attitude towards life. Never reckless, but I fully accept this is no dress rehersal. I enjoy everything I do, rarely get upset or depressed and treat people the way I like to be treated. After all, we're all a "long-time-dead"

This might sound a little trite to some but it works for me !

Another great idea I had for it was "better pissed off than pissed on". Cue the moderators for that one !

So, do you commute daily from Kent to Worcester, Massachussetts or vise versa?????

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......
Posted on: 15 March 2004 by mykel
mykel came about way back in school because there was another person with my initials "mjc" and another chap with the same first name and last initial. So Michael became mykel, it started in the programming lab and has wormed its way into on-line life. Not used in "real" life anymore, wonder why?

michael
