Who knows about TVs?

Posted by: JamieWednesday on 01 June 2004

After 7 years previously faultless service, I came home tonight to find the picture on my Panasonic telly is suddenly showing a kind of green ghosting effect around light and shadow, kind of like early '80's TOTP special effects. It's the same whether on terrestial or SKY, DVD or video.

Anyone got any ideas? I don't really want to call an engineer out only for him to tell me it's buggered and that'll be a hundred quid please...

I think it's something to do with the contrast as the effect shifts around as I adjust the contrast setting from low to high...

Does it need to be degaussed ?

I've seen a few TVs and monitors that show a huge colour shift in one area but still with reasonable sharpness and degaussing the tube often helped.

2p worth....

Jamie

Do you have/have you had any large unshielded speakers near the set?

This can cause a colour-cast (normally in one corner) but de-gaussing normally clears it.

Most modern TV's automatically de-gauss when turned fully off and unplugged overnight.

Good luck.

Sounds like one of the guns has gone.
