A special message for Mr. Matthew Robinson

Another 1,000 copies of Devendra Banhart's alt.folk comp "The Golden Apples of The Sun" are being churned out within the next few weeks. You can pre-order here- http://www.arthurmag.com/store/bastet_cds.php

Hurray!

Thanks.

I was vaguely tempted by "Arthur" magazine (not least as they claim Thurston Moore as a columist) but I couldn't bring myself to subscribe to something with such a naff name.

I have a very well connected friend in NYC who I am constantly trying to beat to new music. Called her last week and said "have you heard the Davendra Berhard cd?". She replies, "Oh Davendra's cd. He used to play with Jesse. I was talking to him about it: it's the hot cd in New York this summer. He's freaked by all the praise it's getting" etc, etc, etc. She did mention a cd by a " friend of Davendra's" Diane Cluck who is apparently similar and very good. You can only get her stuff online - how's that for obscure?

btw, Ludwig, thanks for the reference. You're right: the best record of the year so far by some distance. We've just got back from a few weeks in Italy and it was on the ipod pretty much non stop. Have you heard anything by Veviter ( on DiCristina Stair Builders Records)? They're the band led by Barhart's accompaniest on tour, a fella named Andy Cabic and featuring Colm O'Coisoig from MBV and Hope Sandoval on some songs. Wire said it sounded a little like The Incredible String Band!!

kj- I'm not familar w/ Vevitar, so thanks for the link.

Matthew- As I just woke up I couldn't tell if you knew that the CD can be ordered w/o the mag (scroll down a little further).

Ludwig -- No, no, I found the link for CD but no mag. Free issue with the CD would have seemed like a better offer than a free CD with a subscription.

Kevin -- I am very impressed by your connected friends. Most of my friends are very much in the "Have you got the new Keane CD?" bracket.

Matthew

PS Quality slagging for Keane on Pitchfork yesterday.

One can forgive Franz Ferdinand if only for the fact that trying to be Gang of Four is so much more worthy than trying to be Coldplay.

I have avoided Snow Patrol on the basis that they were just another in the Coldplay/Travis/Starsailor line. Should I reconsider?
