Robert Quine

Sad to read of the death of Robert Quine yesterday. Apparently heroin related but following struggle to come to terms with the death of his wife. I don't know much about his later work but the guitar playing on Richard Hell's "Blank Generation" has always bowled me over: utterly innovative and paved the way for the more angular, arty style used by loads of the No Wave bands and those that followed. The playing and solo on the title track is startling.
Anyone familiar with his later work? I think he worked with Matthew Sweet, who I never caught up with.

I heard the original 7" version of Blank Generation being played on the radio the other day and was astonished at how fresh it still sounded. To find out they were playing it because Bob Quine had died was sad news.
Bob Quine was one of my heroes. I saw him play Live a couple of times both with the Voidoids and Lou Reed and he really had a unique style and sound.
Sort of lost track of his career a bit after the mid eighties but I do remember buying Enos Nerve Net album because he was on it.
Everyone should own a copy of Blank Generation.

I too saw Robert Quine playing with Lou Reed at the Hammersmith Odeon some time in the late 70's I think. Great gig,in my opinion Lou has never toured with a better gutarist, Mike Rathke doesn't come close.
RIP Mr Quine.

Shame, an inventive, creative guitarist.
Will dig out Blank Generation to play.
