Fraim Request

Surely there has to be a better way of securing the little plastic cups than the oh so fiddly little sticky tape rings? They are far better at sticking to your fingers than the glass!!! A product at this price should have a more elegant solution.

Its even more of a pig when you find that you've put them on the wrong side. Roll Eyes I set my shelves to ring ala Mana following forum advice, but then following further advice I did a listening test on 3 and found they all sounded better the other way up

Must Email Richard to see if he can send me some more stickys

The stickys are'nt mandatory are they?

As I understand it they are a safety device for the child monsters.(don't see how they are really much use though)

Mine have grown into adult slobs so I did'nt bother to use the stickys.

Now somebody is going to tell me they change the sound for the better.

The Fraim stickys are useful for when the Fraim or shelves gets knocked by dusting, armchairs sliding towards fraim as they are bounced in and out of over several weeks.

My LP12 shelf seems to float very easily across the front 2 ball-bearings pivoting on the rear one.

Hi

Not wishing to interrupt, but I'm thinking of going the Fraim route. Can any of you give me an idea of the benefits you achieved? Not least given the cost.

Many thanks

Yes, and if you turn them over yet again they may ting-a-ling-ring even better than before, depending on the weather and the tide. That was my experience, in any case. I also suspect that it doesn't make that much of a difference on the whole and any perceived "massive improvements" could be down to differences in setting up the actual shelves, contact cleaning (if you power down and unplug), etc. The Fraim sounds fabulous even without the nth degree tweaks.

I once accidentily knocked the glass shelf off the one of the ball bearings and thought the whole fraim was going to come crashing down. I now have a plastic cup over every ball.

I put the sticky on the plastic cup, then placed them on the ball bearing, then put the glass shelf on. I find if you take it slow and go rack-of-the-eye it's a lot easier than using the cutout.

Its easier if you put the glass shelf on the Fraim the wrong way up, put the sticky on the cup and stick the cup to the glass over the ball bearing and then flip the glass

if you had a good dealer they would do it for you!!

I agree with Rick.

But Bosh, is there a right way up for Fraim glass? Surely you havin' me on Guv'nor!

Oh no he isn't!

Tou are supposed to tap it in the center with your fingernail, once it is resting on the ball bearings.
Whichever side "rings" the loudest should be selected as the top side.
Trouble is as Thomas comments, if you repeat the test you will probably change your mind each time.

Happy Ting-a-lings

Wasn't until the cat jumped on the top shelf that I discovered that's where the rings need to be. Almost knocked the whole bloody lot over without them....

Geoff P do think they sound better as they grow up? Roll Eyes

Yes there is a significant difference as reported previously on this Forum

Geoff P: I set mine up to "ring" first time round

When I did a listening comparison I found on the 3 that I tried (LP12/Pre/CDS) it actually sounded better the other way up.
