Extended warrantys

Will be getting one of those American style fridge / freezers in a week or so's time - is it worth spending £140 on a five year extended warranty?

Hi,
I purchased a 28" widescreen TV some 7 years ago, and got the 5 year warranty with it. 6 months from its expiry the tv expired. Currys honoured the warranty, and i added £150 to it and got the Toshibe 32" widescreen I now have! So I did ok out of it.

but, I would consider waiting until after purchase as usually if you fill the registration document in that comes with the item they send you their own extended warranty which is susualy a little cheaper and also from the manufacturer direct.

Depends on the warranty. Bought one off Dixons for a DVD player which turned out to be not worth the paper ot was printed on. On the other hand, we have one on the telly that is comprehensive and an engineer comes to us. There's no point in buying a warranty until the maker's one is due to expire. Gives you at least a year to think about what's best.

Not in exactly the same ball park, but I have a used warranty on the car which has turned out to be worth the cost and then some. It really depends on the small print and you should read it through from start to finish.

Cheers
