Nobody without a naim????
Posted by: Franz K on 11 August 2000
I guess everybody who posts messages on this formum has naim equipment, and I am pretty sure that we can all agree that there is something special about owning and listening to music played on naim gear.
Yet when I first read the new? logo on this forum "you are nothing without a naim" I felt a little uneasy. OK you can say its just said along and everybody who reads it understands what is meant ie. its HiFi gear basically made to let peaple enjoy better music.
Nevertheless I think naim is such an outstanding company that it should not be their style to potentially offend somebody by using such a logo.
Just my thoughts,
Regards, Franz
PS: I dislike smilies

No offense is intended, the 3 forums have all headings taken from adverts we have done, it is supposed to be a bit of fun, perhaps we will change this one to "I'm sorry I did not catch your naim", another ad but maybe less problematic is this case.

But there is still no escaping the fact that we are nobody without a Naim.... -:)

IIRC the slogan came from this advert that ran sometime back in the 80s.

JC,
I keep telling you, get rid of the LK100s. They are truely one of Linn's worst moments. The Kabers are (IMHO) a no-no too... very boxy sounding with low levels of dynamics. The combination of the two is a disaster.
Try the 82/Hi/250 vs Kairn/LK140/Ninka. It's time to quit the "what if" stage and take action.

I have Mana Sound Bases under Kabers, and yes, you can expect an improvement.
You use them short side forward.
It sounds tighter and firmer, like having a new pair of trousers.

Paul,
perhaps your forum developers could use the phrase on the opening page as a link to a reasonably large picture of the ad. Together with a brief description the problem should be resolved.

Franz,
I guess the message reflects the pride of Naim Audio HiFi. Naim equipment are very good and people who use Naim are quite happy with their purchases. I use Naim/Exposure combination in the past and now have all Naim pieces. The best buy was the CD3 (purchased with Exposure amp 4 years ago). You will not go wrong with Naim pieces as long as you like the Naim sound and any upgrade (regardless how minor it is) will surely provide some kind of improvement.

Instead of changing the "catch phrases" why not put up scans of the adverts (preferably with links to larger, wallpaper usable copies) so that everyone gets the joke?
Plus it would mean that those of us who remember those ads fondly could stick them as a background on our PC screens!

Naim Wallpaper! Well why not?
How about a skin for MP3 players like winamp or Musicmatch Jukebox as well!
There is already a downloadable screensaver.

Peter,
I just happen to have a Naim Winamp skin somewhere on one of the servers at work,I could mail it to you if you wish.
(Never actually got around to using it,but if you want it...no problem)

It is a play on words - you are really nothing in this world if you do not have a name (or a social security number).
Obviously some humour/humor does not transfer across nations.
