Star Trek Enterprise

Have my impeccable standards for TV drama dropped or has Enterprise improved this season to the point that it's no longer painful to watch?
I'll entertain the competing hypothesis that with Buffy off the air, there no longer is anything good on TV (except for the newsy Daily Show with Jon Stewart), so by default crap shows previously not given a passing thought now seem watchable, good even. If so, I also expect 24 to be brilliant this season.

Is this the latest season of which you speak? The last (Xindi arc) was pretty good IMHO.Manny Coto (Odyssey 5) has brought a new maturity and vigour to the show.
But for great TV; watch the new Battlestar Galactica. Whatever anyone else says. It's abso-fracking-lutely brilliant. It's 24 meets Babylon 5 meets the Sopranos. With better FX and acting...

Stephen,
Yup, the season that began about a month ago. (I don't know if the broadcasts in the UK are in synch with those here. It's the season *after* the Xindi season.)
*New*? There's a new series?

Well it's new in the UK - the one with the female Starbuck.

Stephen,
You are seriously comparing Battlestar Galatica to The Sopranos? The Sopranos being one of the best TV dramas of (at least) the last 10 years?
When is it on?
Matthew

Are you saying there's a fourth series????

Jon,
Yup, the upcoming season of 24 would be the fourth installment of a day in the life of hard-ass Jack Bower.
Hard to believe so much shit can happen in a day, eh -- battling terrorists... outwitting double-crossing double agents... outsmarting druglords... avoiding mountain lions... finding cures to viral plagues... popping a cap in your buddy's ass cuz the bad guy said you had to... preventing a presidential coup d'état. The excitement never ends on the show -- well, not until 24 hours have elapsed.

Would I lie to you?
It's on Mondays & Thursdays (Mix) and probably other days too. It's superb.
Nick; I'm sure it'll be repeated - it's one of the few TV series that keep me from working on a henry fool album.

Not only that, but a Mac with a mullet -- long on the screen and video card, but short on the processor. Shameful, really. ;-)

Nick,
Any idea what implication that transformation will have on Gary's spelling and use of the apostrophe?

Bugger it, of course!
The thing is I've only ever watched 24 on DVD, which of course have no commercial breaks which means each episode lasts for roughly 40 minutes!
My apologies, everyone, for this terrible oversight.

Garyi is undoubtedly a Young Fogey but frankly I blame Nick for getting him into stuff like Zappa at an impressionable age.
Dan said "Silly, he goes during the commercials - just like the rest of us"
Originally in the UK it was shown commercial free on the BBC. This threw off all the timings and meant that 24hrs was actually 23hrs 18mins. Personally I felt this dstroyed the srtistic integrity of the piece and the BBC should have broadcast appropriate lengths of blanks screen to restore it.

erm, me too - I've just finished Season 1 disk 1 - but I kind of sussed there were commercials because of the clock thingy.

I bet that's closer to 16 hrs. It's not bad so far, but can't see what all the fuss is about over Kim.
