Psychedelic Happening

...Or rather a surprise 50th birthday party that me and my daughters are organising for my wife!

Firstly this is my first 'new topic' - I hope this is a suitable subject. Anyway, I've hired a hall, hired a wild pianist and a great band and it's happening 16th October. Also, I'm making some great 'freak out(!)' compilations (yes, some people may think this is rather sad ) to play through the PA when then live acts aren't on. And this is the reason for my post. I'm just having great fun trawling through my collection and some of the stuff I have recorded includes...

Beatles - Lucy, Tomorrow never knows, and other usual suspects
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit, Somebody to love
Love - Alone again or, The Castle
and Doors, Steppenwolf, Donovan, Zager & Evans (remember In the year 2525!), CSNY, Captain Beefheart... and the list goes on.

I would be really grateful if any forum members could suggest their own favourite one or two 'Summer of Love' type tracks. I'm sure there must be many I've forgotten (can you remember the 60's? - then you weren't there etc.)

I realise this may be difficult for the many 20 year old forum members who play mostly Busted and McFly on their CDS3/552/500/DBL systems.

Anyway, peace and love man.

Buy the Pretty Things' Psychedelic Years (2-CD set) or whatever it's called, and play the whole thing. Then Shazam by the Move, finishing of with "In Held 'Twas In I" off of Shine On Brightly by Procol Harum. That, Battenburg cake and a good cup of tea is all the psychedelia a 50-year-old frame can take.*

*Speaking only for myself.

13th Floor Elevators with the psychedelic jug accompaniment, something from their Easter Everywhere album.

Some early Caravan, e.g., Cecil Ron from their first album.

Thanks all. Great suggestions! I'm off to HMV tomorrow to give the credit card a good hammering. Smile

PS Nick - what a fantastic post on psych-pop. This will do my bank balance a great deal of harm!
