Email to SMS

How can I receive sms notifications when I receive email? To make use of the free email to sms services, I need to be able to change the subject to my mob number - which I can't do with my forwarder. I was trying to figure it out with a combo of the autoresponder and forwarder, but I am missing a trick somewhere. I know it can be done (Hi Alex), but can it be done for free? My mob network doesn't have the facility, afaik.

I assume it's your work/PhD email you're after?

Microsoft discontinued that capability with Exchange Server 2003 so you'll probably have to cobble a solution together. IIRC there are desktop based clients that do essentially the same thing but send a WAP-based push message instead of an SMS. Or something like that.

I'll ponder but in the meantime this may be a good place to peruse.

I should've mentioned- if the university is using pre-2003 Exchange you probably don't have the capability built-in either, because prior to 2003 mobile stuff was part of Mobile Information Server (which about 18 organizations worldwide bought).

If I receive an email to my Orange email address I get an SMS text message alert to my phone and it's free within the UK.

You get all the required settings by visiting Orange's website.

www.orange.net

When you've set up your email account you should receive a configuration message by text to your phone. All you then need to do is save it!

I guess the other networks offer something similar.

Steve.
