"I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side" .

If you can recogonise that quotation without resorting to google then you may well be glad to know that Marvin and friends are back on R4 later this month after a 25 year rest but will they still have the magic of those early episodes?

I sure do hope so.

Blimey didn’t know this was doing the rounds again, used to sit in my car (Mk 1 Cortina) at Bath tech college listening to it. It will be nostalgic to here it again.
Thanx

Fantastic, still got my tapes of the original series. Let's hope these adaptations are a worthy tribute to the author.

Steve.

It's a grand old team to play for...

I replaced my old tapes when the BBC released a boxed CD set of the complete series.

Man I'm so hip I can hardly see over my belt...

Goody goody another chance to be a right pain and brow beat everybody into listening. I love this stuff and it should be compulsory listening for all but most don't give a pair of fetid dingoes kidneys about HHGTTG. Their loss methinks.
Cast haven't faired as well as the scripts.
Can't wait.

I can't wait either! William Franklin is a worthy sucessor to Peter Jones (though I'd have preferred Oliver Postgate) and I trust Dirk Maggs to pull it off.

Unlike the impending film version.

Fans of HHGTTG might like to have a look at an SF novel written, I think, in the late 50s or early 60s by, as far as I can recall, by Robert Sheckley (I think that's how you spell the name). The novel is called Dimension of Miracles.

You will notice a few similarities between the first HHGTTG book and "Dimension of Miracles".

HHGTTG is not a copy but the structure is similar and at least one episode in HHGTTG is, if my memory serves me correctly, very similar indeed to one in "Dimension of Miracles".

In any case, if you like HHGTTG, you'll love "Dimension of Miracles".

Regards,

Paul.

Agrajag is the funniest creation of a tragic character - ever.

The CD boxset is great - I borrowed that off of Devon Libraries in the mid 90s and taped it (naughty naughty!).

When's the DVD of the late 70s TV version out (or is it already)? I remember watching that avidly as an 11 year old in 1987, then seeing the last episode while coming round from general anaesthetic after a teeth op - was it REALLY that trippy, or was it just the drugs??? Very very good indeed...

The DVD is out, I've had a copy for a while now. The sound on it is v. dodgy though.

The radio show was far better in that it was left to your (and Douglas Adams' rather deranged) imagination...

The quality of the books after the first 2 was variable so I am not holding out too much hope and the original radio series seemed to run out of steam about midway through the second series.

Reminder - It's on in 6 minutes!

DVD is excellent for it's comprehensive extras, which together with the episodes add up to a nice package. Didn't so much as snigger through the broadcast this evening - it's been years and years since I read the books so maybe it's going to take time to get up to speed. From what I can remember there's some good stuff to come - assuming the radio show puts the emphasis in the right places. I'll certainly stick with it.

Cheers

Indeed not. A very memorable experience. Unlikely to be repeated but I'm glad they've squared the circle.
