Sound-Factory Isolation frame

Posted by: Alco on 10 January 2001

Hi folks.

Last night I had a visit from a friend.
He brought along his beloved Rega P3 and also
a Sound-Factory isolation platform.
His audio-stuff was collecting dust on the
attic. ('cause of his low WAF, ...poor guy)
Now,we were compairing his Rega P3 against my
Naim CD-3.5 He still thinks Vinyl is much
better than the digital format(s).
It didn't took long for me to admit that the Rega
P3 was (slightly) better than my CD-3.5
(ok,ok,he won)

But, a couple o' hours ago I was curious if the
isolation-frame would make a difference when placed under my 3.5

Holycow, and it sure did!
After instalation in my Atacama rack,it was so much easier to follow inividual instruments in (like)a full orchestra.
The low end played a better tune also.

It's a metal frame with 6 tiny spikes on it and
a 6 mm mdf plate on top of that.

Yee, never thought it would make such a difference.

Now, does anybody know if these things are still made. (they costed about 30-40 UKP)

hmm, I begin to understand why people are loving
that Mana,QS,Hutter stuff.
(even though those brand may be in a higher leaque)

Well, that's all for now.

Enjoy the music!

Alco,

is that Sound Factory or the Ruark Sound Barrier?

These boards were around the price you mentioned.

Sorry, no idea if they're still available.

cheers, Martin

Alco,

They are no longer made I'm afraid. I used to use them on top of their Tripod stands, but they were modified, a lot...

First I changed the top board for 18 mm MDF. Next a piece of 10 mm clear float glass was placed on top of the MDF. Next a similar sized Greenline ( 10 mm clear float glass with clear half domed feet ) was placed on top of this.

The improvement over the 'standard' board top was not small. I tried one of my Mana sound frames in place of it & the difference was IMHO negligible.

Try & track one down, they represent good value.

Bob.
